Claire Kalala is a LGPAT, LGPC, and multidisciplinary fine artist living and working in the DMV area. She earned a MA in Art Therapy from the George Washington University in 2021 and a BFA from the University of the Arts in 2013.
Having previously worked in special education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Claire has worked with individuals across the spectrum of neurodiversity and brings a high level of expertise to offer individualized, integrative, and trauma-informed care for individuals with varied support needs. Claire's clinical experiences include providing individual and programmatic group art therapy to children, adolescents, and adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities and mood/anxiety disorders in community-based and non-public school settings. Claire's therapeutic and creative work reflect a deep care for experiences of living "in-between": at the intersections of multiple identities, during momentous life transitions, and at the inevitable crossroads of each individual's unique healing journey. She is intentional in her work to be anti-oppressive (anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity affirming, HAES-informed) and social justice-allied. She is committed to learning from and standing with clients from all backgrounds. Art therapy with Claire is warm, client-centered, and strengths-based; her approach to art therapy is right alongside her clients, wherever they may be.
