Angana (Angie) is a Maryland State approved LMSW and Mental Health Professional at Anchor Counseling Centers. Originally hailing from India, Angie is an experienced Medical Doctor (M.B.B.S. M.D.) with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital & health care industry. She is skilled in family medicine, clinical research, medical education, medicine, neuropharmacology, psychopharmacology, immunopharmacology, and conducting of clinical trials. In her MD curriculum, she completed her dissertation on the evaluation of analgesic potential of an ethanolic extract of Piper betle Lin.
After migrating to the USA, she completed her MSW from the University of South Carolina and got licensed as a Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the State of Maryland and South Carolina. As a mental health professional, Angie has experience in motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, SBIRT, CBT, clinical assessments, individual and family therapies. Angie has worked with a vast population with children as young as four years old to geriatric population. As a medical doctor and as a licensed therapist, Angie has a plethora of experience in mental healthcare and she has worked with clients facing homelessness, substance use, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, oppositional disorder, conduct disorder, explosive anger disorder, adjustment disorder. She is fluent in English, Hindi, Bengali, and Urdu, and can understand Punjabi but does not speak the language.
Angie's main goal is to provide a safe and comfort zone for all clients. She uses a client-centered, strength-based approach, utilizing motivational interviewing to meet their needs. She wants to work towards building a strong and secure therapeutic relationship to help her clients achieve their therapeutic goals.
