Suzie is currently in the process of fulfilling the requirements for her dog, Stanley, to become an official Therapy Dog. Stanley will be in and out of the sessions, so you may have the chance to say hello!
Authentic connection is key to healing. As a therapist, Suzie does this through person-centered counseling, with a focus on building positive relationships with her clients. Suzie has a unique way of making her clients feel understood, connected, and comfortable. She hopes to partner with each of her clients on their journey to becoming the best, and healthiest versions of themselves that they can be. Suzie has recently become EMDR trained (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She has also completed all of the training and supervision to be an Internationally Credentialed Sand Tray therapist. Both of these creative and powerful modalities of therapy are useful in helping clients to overcome many hurdles. Life is full of trials and circumstances that impact how we perceive ourselves and others. Suzie enjoys working with adults who need support as they walk through grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. One of her passions is supporting people through nutrition, alternative, holistic, mindful practices, and healthy lifestyle changes. Suzie is also able to tailor therapy from a faith-based approach if a client wishes. As a former middle school counselor for Carroll County Public Schools, Suzie recognizes that adolescence is a tumultuous time of change in the life of a student, and she is able to connect and come alongside students to support, challenge, and process. Suzie has experience counseling students of all ages struggling with grief and loss, family issues, anxiety, depression, peer relations, self-injury, and life changes. Suzie is also able to assist students and their parents as they work with the school to create accommodations to support learning for ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, and other learning issues. Suzie attended Virginia Tech for her undergraduate degree in Family and Child Development with a specialization in Elementary Education. After college, she taught in both private and public schools. She completed her Masters’ Degree in Counselor Education from McDaniel College in Westminster, MD. Suzie is a mom to six young adults. Through the years of raising her kids alone as a widowed mom and her own traumatic life experiences, she has acquired invaluable skills and experiences that have helped her in her career as a counselor. Suzie is refreshingly real and offers hope and support to her clients. Suzie is practicing in the Optimal Wellness for Life office on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
